Functional & Collectable Handmade Pottery

Paris, Kentucky

Top shop for gifts.

Announcement    Simple and functional. Not knowing what I make until it happens is a pure joy! I realize that my creative process was taken from something in nature, landscape architecture, a junk pile, old containers - just about anything I've come in contact with or seen somewhere. All of my work is hand-crafted in my home studio. My pottery is wheel thrown or hand built. Many pieces are a combination of both processes and I sometimes incorporate other media such as glass, metal and fiber. Quite often, my pieces will have slight imperfections and marks left by the handmade process. These contribute to the uniqueness and beauty of the forms and are simply part of the character of the individual piece

I am mostly self-taught, as no formal education, but I have had a few great teachers (thanks Ken Macht) along the way, many great workshops, touring museums, galleries, books, DVD’s and just life in general as teaching tools. I am influenced often by nature and dilapidated industrial ruins.

My obsession for clay began many years ago thus creating my addiction to wood/soda firing. In wood firings the clay can be glazed or left unglazed to highlight the natural ash melt that occurs during the firing process. Wood firings are both labor intensive and expensive and require a commitment of several days of constant attention to complete. The plan for my own wood kiln is underway!

Horsehair Raku is another favorite for me. There’s just something magical about how the hair dances, creating it’s own artwork on the pot. And of course, I work with stoneware.

I have exhibited and sold at local and regional art/craft shows and galleries. You never know what’s firing! If you live in Kentucky or don't mind a road trip, come for a visit!

Thanks for stopping by!
